Description
L: 15-16.5cm; W:21-28cm;
Wintering bird that shows sexual dimorphism in the breeding season. In autumn-winter, both sexes are similar with a reddish-brown head, ocher eyebrow and moustachial stripe and a whitish throat; dark brown striped back and light underparts striped on ocher flanks. Conical grey bill and white outer tail feathers. During breeding, male plumage has a blacker crown, auriculars, and white on the nape, while the white collar stands out in flight. Juveniles are similar to females, with new plumage.
