Description

Large and striking bird that inhabits wetlands with abundant marshy vegetation. There are no differences between the sexes, adults with purplish-blue plumage; white undertail coverts; red scute, beak and legs. Juvenile with slate gray plumage, with lighter underparts; bill bluish gray with reddish tints; red legs.
