Description
L: 21-23cm; W:38-42cm;
Bird with black plumage, shiny and without markings in summer, paler and with light markings in winter; yellow bill in breeders, dark in winter; short tail. Both sexes are similar. The female in summer has the base of the bill pink and the male blue. Greyish brown juveniles; clear well-marked eyebrow; slightly tinted dark cheek.
