Description

L: 13cm; W:21-24cm;

Species with a brown back, speckled with dark; head with well-marked eyebrow, white in the male and yellowish in the female; brown wing, with white on inner coverts; dark tail, with a white base. In breeding plumage, the male has a blackish cheek, pure white eyebrow, and black mask bordered by white, bright orange throat and chest; white base of primary coverts. The female has a brown cheek, buff white eyebrow; tail feathers with indistinct separation between white at the base and brown at the tip; most specimens with dark spots on the chest. Juveniles are similar to females but with fresh plumage.
