Description
L:42-50cm; W: 71-85cm
Wintering Anatidae, more frequent on the coast but also present in inland wetlands. Male with chestnut head and neck; crown and forehead cream-yellow; gray vermiculate back; white abdomen; undertail coverts black; wings with white band and green mirror. Brown female; head without crown cream; gray brown upperparts; undertail coverts mottled dark; wing with green mirror duller than in the male. In flight, the male has a greenish speck and a conspicuous white panel on the front of the wing.
