A very common raptor, with highly variable plumage from very light to very dark colors, with everything in between. Generally brown-backed; pale underparts, streaked; wings dark, lighter below, with black-tipped primaries; tail dark and barred; bill dark; yellow wax; eye usually brown. Both sexes with similar plumage. Males generally smaller than females
