Description

L:46-56cm; W:78-90cm

A shallow, freshwater duck that is sexually dimorphic. Male in winter quite uniform brownish-grey; white belly; Black Back Bottom; gray wings with chestnut spot; black and white eyeglass, bordered in black on the front. Female brown, mottled and dark streaked; bill orange with black culmen; eyeglass like the male. Juveniles with notched tail feathers, edged with white; narrow median and greater coverts; tertials short, gray brown with paler tips.
