Description
In breeding plumage, the male has an ocher hood with black striations and the rest of the head is gray; black neck with white stripes, followed by a white and a black collar. In non-breeding plumage, it resembles the femalW: ocher back and wing coverts with fine black barring; white underparts; wings with black-tipped white flight feathers; gray bill with black tip and greenish or gray legs. In non-breeding plumage, the female presents a slightly regular and dark vermiculated back; white underparts, with dark mottling on breast, flanks and undertail coverts and 7th primary long, non-breeding male with regularly vermiculated and pale back; underparts without dark mottling; sides of breast vermiculated as back; sometimes a diffuse semi-collar pale buff; 7th primary short. Juveniles similar to female but with more streaked head and darker back; wing coverts barred with cuttlefish.
