Description

With more diurnal habits than other owls, this owl has a brown back with rounded white spots; chest diffusely fringed brown and white; brown flight feathers, speckled with white and ochre; brown tail with fine light ocher barring; head squat and flattened, without “ears”; bill yellowish-green; whitish eyebrow and yellow eyes. Both sexes are similar in plumage, although males tend to have more white on their faces than females. Juvenile with brown head and back, with few or no white markings; hood feathers narrowly edged brown; new wing feathers
