Description

L: 14-16cm, W: 44cm.

Very similar to the Common swift and easily confused. It shows greyish-brown colouration; Throat patch white but smaller than in Commons; flank feathers with a diffuse pale edge; secondaries and greater and lighter coverts. Silhouette in the shape of a crossbow, with long and pointed wings, tail more forked than in Commons; very short legs and feet with toes pointed forward, prevents them from perching on floors and cables; short, flat bill with a very wide mouth. Both sexes are identic. Its entire life cycle can be developed in flight, except for nesting. Fast and acrobatic flight.
